What is PPF?

Pioneered by 3M Automotive Division, Scotchgard Paint Protection film helps protect vulnerable painted surfaces on automobiles, RVs, commercial trucks and other painted vehicles against damage caused by stone chips, bug acids, surface scratches and degradation from the elements.

Why should I consider having PPF installed on my car?

Since today’s automobiles cost more and last longer than cars of just a few years ago, anticipated operational life could extending well beyond 100,000 miles. Thus, consumers have a heightened interest in protecting vehicle appearance and preserving their investment.

This clear film does not alter a vehicle’s appearance or change its aerodynamics, is functional and practical, and prolongs the life of the finish. Ken Halford, 3M technical engineer, explains that paint protection film is made with thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable plastic chosen for its long-term durability and resistance to weathering. “This film blocks ultraviolet rays and has the same gloss appearance as the clear coated paint finish,” Halford said. “Its pressure-sensitive adhesive bonds very well to painted surfaces, and yet the film can be removed if desired, without damage on factory painted surfaces. These features have proved important to customer satisfaction. Paint protection films are OEM-approved and applied on vehicles in automotive assembly plants.”

What area’s can be protected?

Clear PPFs replaces bulky vinyl bras and plastic deflectors, and helps to keep hoods, bumpers, door posts, fenders, headlights, mirror backs, and many other area’s to keep them looking new longer.

The following photos are of a new AMG MBZ that arrived at a body shop in San Diego. After a close inspection we found that the vehicle had PPF, so we decided to put it to a real world test, pulling back the film so we could inspect the paint.

Even though the parts were damaged beyond repair, the paint was still intact on the areas the film had been applied. But on the areas where the PPF was not applied the paint was scratched and chipped.

This is a real-world example of the kind of protection PPF brings to your vehicle!
